Bodice Detail

To make the dress more grown up and sexy I decided to have part of it backless. I've shaped it to be flattering and so that the dress doesn't lose its structure.

Here I've sewed down the honeycomb shapes for the bodice detail, however I have now decided I won't use mixed fabrics for this part of the dress as there will already be a lot of that going on in the skirt part. Instead I will use just leather which will keep it looking classier and more expensive. I have also decided there won't be as many different sizes and overlapping going on.

Skirt Pattern and Gathers

I created the underskirt with a slight flare, however most of the fullness of the skirt will  be in the layers of gathers to be sewn onto the underskirt.

Before cutting my final pieces I needed to measure and try out different lengths and heights for my gathers.

These are the proportions I will use on my final dress, however each tier will hold three layers of different fabrics.

Sampling

Here I played around with differant fabrics to see how I could create certain aspects from my designs.

I cut out some fabric in a hexagon shape to create a mock of how I might arrange my leather peices on the final garment.
